Application for scaffolding permit

You need a licence from Essex County Council to put:

  • scaffolding, or
  • hoardings (temporary board fence around a building site)

on any road, pavement or verge owned by Essex County Council.

Please note:You must be a licenced scaffold contractor with proof of public liability insurance to £10 million to apply for a scaffold licence

Scaffolding applications take at least 15 working days to process

Essex County Council cannot process licences for sites located in Southend, Thurrock or London Boroughs. If you’re not sure which Local Authority you should contact, enter the site postcode into find your local council.

This form will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please make sure you have enough time to complete the whole form in one session so that your information is not lost.
